After another slow start to the second half, the Gibraltar Vikings were able to take command of the game behind senior captains Nathan Surges and Tyler Kropuenske to defeat the GB New Lutheran Blazers by a final score of 75-61. Surges led the team with a season high 26 points, while Kropuenske followed up nicely putting up 22 of his own. Head Coach Justin Burress talked about how two of his senior captains kept momentum on the side of the home team, as well as some other things he saw from the Vikings performance.
Gibraltar led nicely at half time by over 14 points, which was erased thanks to a 7-0 run by the Blazers to start the half led by Samuel Meerstein. Nonetheless, Surges and Kropuenske communicated well with the defense, and helped control the breakout of the offense up the court which in turn led for longer offensive possessions to drain the clock. At one point during the second half the Blazers tied the game at 45-45 for a long three minutes where there was just a stalemate. Neither team was able to break through the others defense until a nice three from Trevor Reinhardt swung the momentum back in favor of the Vikings who never looked back cruising to a 75-61 win.
Gibraltar prepares for the Kohler Tournament which they will travel to starting tomorrow afternoon. They will play on Friday and Saturday over the weekend in Kenosha, WI. The Blazers will look to rebound on Tuesday December 13th against Sturgeon Bay at home.
