Support is growing for the Department of Natural Resources to conduct an aquatic life study of the East Twin River. After the DNR approved a permit for the Agropur cheese plant in Luxemburg to increase the amount of chloride they are allowed to discharge earlier this year, the Kewaunee County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to have the department look into the quality of the impaired waterway and the ecosystem surrounding it. After recently garnering the support of United States Senator Tammy Baldwin in the form of a letter, Board Supervisor Lee Luft says it is encouraging to have the support of both U.S. Senators and other federal representatives.
Luft says the DNR has mailed its decision on whether or not it will conduct the aquatic life survey and it should be known in the coming days.
