The Gibraltar Boys basketball team suffered their first loss of the season on Monday night to Algoma by a final score of 52-47. The Vikings came out strong in the first half holding the Wolves to only 15 points in the first half however Coach Justin Burress thinks there were several factors that led to a change in momentum in the second half.
Gibraltar did have a bright spot in their offense. Tyler Kropuenske totaled a season high 22 points and was “an absolute force in the paint, he was able to knock down some nice fifteen-footers” according to Burress. Defensively, the Vikings did not play as disciplined as they did in the first half. Thanks to key defensive adjustments by Algoma, and more second change scoring opportunities, the Wolves were able to hang on for the victory.
Gibraltar plays next against GB New Lutheran on Thursday night in Fish Creek, while Algoma travels to Sturgeon Bay on Friday for a showdown with the Clippers.
