The United States Coast Guard has confirmed that it will conduct ice breaking operations in Green Bay this winter if warranted, putting ice anglers on notice. Ice cutters are expected to be needed from the Rock Island Passage to the Fox River as the Port of Green Bay continues to pick up the slack of the shuttered West Shore Pipeline that brought gasoline from Milwaukee to northeast Wisconsin. Mark Gill from the Coast Guard says the ice cutting operations may make it unsafe for those choosing to recreate on the bay.
The United States Coast Guard will also conduct ice cutting operations in Sturgeon Bay, Marinette, and Green Bay in Wisconsin and also in Escanaba and Menomonee in Michigan. You can find information on how to keep track of ice cutting operations this winter online with this story.
