Long after you harvest your trophy buck or doe, it can help area residents in need. In its 22nd year, the Hunt for Hungry program connects hunters with area food pantries with extra venison. The program collected 771 tons of wild game meat in 2015. In addition since 1988, the Wisconsin Lions Clubs has collected deer hides to help fund special projects and its camp located in Rosholt, Wis. Kewaunee Lions Club member John Mastalir says donations are up this year by 50 percent over 2015, when he collected over 700 hides.
Hunt for the Hungry donations are taken year-round while deer hide donations will be accepted by participating Wisconsin Lions Clubs until the middle of January. You can find donation information for both causes online with this story.
