Warm temperatures and the late peak of the fall colors contributed to strong Washington Island Ferry ridership in the opening months of the offseason. The Washington Island Ferry’s numbers on the long Columbus Day weekend were off the pace of last year’s total because tourists and county residents were holding off to see the colors at their brightest. Ferry President Hoyt Purinton says the mild temperatures is keeping traffic brisk to and from the island.
The Washington Island Ferry has one more week of its fall roundtrip schedule before dropping to four daily trips on December 5 and just two beginning January 3. Vehicle reservations will be required for the ferry beginning December 19.
