The closure of a gas pipeline from Milwaukee to Green Bay could have unintended consequences this winter. Oil tankers have been shuttling through the Port of Green Bay with shipments since the pipeline was closed indefinitely in June. If ice breaking operations are needed on the bay this winter to keep oil imports flowing through the port, ice fishing guide JJ Malvitz says his business could take a hit because of safety concerns.
Malvitz is not just worried about his business either.
The United States Coast Guard Cutter Mackinaw is the ship in charge of heavy ice breaking operations on the Great Lakes.
