The Village of Sister Bay is moving from a co-mingled/paper recycling system to a single stream recycling system starting in January 2017. The single stream system essentially takes separating paper and plastic out of the equation. Residents can simply put all of their recycling into one bin, and they don’t have to worry about any separation when disposing of recycling materials. Henk Wolst from Going Garbage & Recycling in Sister Bay elaborates on the single stream recycling system.
Wolst says that this single stream recycling systems has encouraged more people to recycle than ever before. The main reason is the convenience factor of not having to separate plastics and paper. Under the current recycling system, residents have to sort paper and plastic into separate bags.
Going Garbage & Recycling will work with the Village of Sister Bay to communicate to residents more information about the recycling transition. The new recycling system officially begins on January 1st, 2017.
