Southern Door School District will add a prairie to its ecological portfolio when students begin planting next week. With an accredited school forest already to its name, students, parents, and volunteers have already started plotting the different areas of the prairie and preparing the soil for the seeds and plants. Superintendent Patti Vickman says the school prairie, with help from Chris Plzak from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, will give its students another hands-on outdoor learning experience.
The official planting of the two-acre prairie will take place on November 29. Volunteers are welcome to participate in the event.
