The workers at Algoma Hardwoods and the City of Algoma are rallying together to get through the reality of a factory closing. When a large employer in a small city decides to close up shop, the ramifications can be enormous. Algoma City Administrator Jeff Wiswell says there was a swift reaction to the shocking news.
The Bay Area Workforce Development Board will take a hands-on approach to helping the displaced workers find new jobs. According to Wiswell, twenty-four years was the companywide average tenure of the one hundred and eighty factory workers who will be laid off.
