The newly resurfaced Bay Shore Drive, which winds north of Sturgeon Bay, is popular with many bicyclists and drivers in the area but that does not mean it is designated as a bike route. Door County Highway Department Commissioner John Kolodziej clarifies the difference between a bike lane and a travel lane.
State code requires an eleven foot width of the white travel lane from the yellow center line. Kolodzieg says the goal on road construction projects is to have a paved shoulder on roads to provide better safety for all vehicle traffic.
