Plenty of work still needs to be done before the Brussels-Union-Gardner Fire Department can break ground on its $2.8 million station projects this spring. Detailed spec books are set to go out to contractors beginning in January after the B.U.G. Fire Department finalized details with its architect and agreements with Door County and the three towns it serves. B.U.G. Fire Chief Curt Vandertie says he is happy to see light at the end of a tunnel that has been over five years in the making.
Vandertie believes the new facilities will be open in the fall and hopes it is a driving force in its current recruitment efforts. Applications to become a B.U.G. firefighter are available at their stations.
