In a hard fought battle that lived up to all the billing, a spirited Luxemburg-Casco Spartan comeback bid fell short in a 21-10 loss to The Notre Dame Tritons in a Division 3 Level 3 Football Game Friday night in Green Bay.
The Spartans fell behind 7-0 to the Tritons in the second quarter on a 38 yard touchdown pass from Jonathon Santaga to Quinn Snyder. L-C had thought they had scored a touchdown in the first quarter on a 90 yard run by quarterback Jon Deprey but the play was called back on a controversial illegal block in the back penalty.
The Tritons came out of halftime and scored on another touchdown pass to take a 14-0 lead, before the Spartans scored ten straight points to pull within 4 points. Austin Tlachac scored on a 15 yard run in the third quarter and Samuel Larson kicked a 28 yard field goal with 8:37 left in the fourth quarter.
The Triton then put the game away with a long five minute drive capped by a two yard touchdown run by Nate Ihlenfeldt on a fourth-and-goal with 3:19 left in the game.
The Spartans were led in rushing by Deprey who finished with 92 on 20 carries. Dalton Smerchek led the L-C defense with 10 tackles. Luxemburg-Casco finished a memorable and successful season 11-1 while Notre Dame (11-1) will now play Rice Lake in a State Semi-final playoff next week.
