Kewaunee County is well on its way to setting a new record for deer vs. vehicle accidents. In 2015 a new high mark was set, as 502 accidents involving deer were reported. Through the first ten months of 2016 there have already been 391 reported accidents, putting it on pace to break that record yet again. Kewaunee County Sheriff Matt Joski comments on the unpredictability of deer that can frustrate even the most aware of drivers.
As deer hunting picks up so does the movement of deer. Joski says that while everyone wants to avoid hitting deer, it is very important not to swerve out of your lane to do so. He says applying your brakes as quickly and safely as possible is the best solution.
