After finding out in a 2014 Door County Youth Risk Behavior survey that only 41.4 percent of high school students ate fruit once or more in the past week, one organization looked to the flip the trend. Representatives from Healthy Door County have been meeting with area school district food service directors to try to incorporate a variety of different fruits and vegetables into a student’s diet. Healthy Door County educator Sara Mckillop says being visible in school cafeterias has had a positive impact.
After their grant from the Center for Disease Control expired, Healthy Door County partnered with school districts, government entities, businesses, and local non-profits to help the program continue.
