Sevastopol Volleyball swept N.E.W. Lutheran in WIAA Division 4 regional semi-final volleyball Thursday night (25-11, 25-11 and 25-16). Coach Mary Volkman was beaming with pride after the match. “It was a great night for the Pioneers! Every player contributed, total team effort. They dominated the match from the moment they took the court. The first set they took the lead 9-0 and never looked back. They were totally focused. Tonight’s match was exactly where we need to be at this point in the season. Best match of the season in terms of team play from start to finish. We need to repeat at Hilbert on Saturday night (7:00 PM).”
In Division 2, Luxemburg-Casco also got their brooms out and swept Wrightstown (25-15, 25-19, 25-22). A revenge factor was carried out here after the Tigers upset the Spartans in the regional tournament last year. Megan Cannon tallied 20 assists, 14 digs, and three kills for L-C. Erin Liebeck added 12 assists and 10 digs, Alexis Dorner managed 12 kills, and Molly Wotruba finished with 21 digs.
Spartans Coach Jeff Frey said, “We came out very focused, and I loved the energy we played with tonight. Proud of the way we battled in game three. To be down 18-8 and come back and win shows the character this team has. We had a few girls who were battling through injury and stepped up to the challenge. I am very proud of the effort tonight, and we are excited about the opportunity to play for a Regional Championship on Saturday Night.”
In Division 3, Algoma and Kewaunee both lost. The Wolves fell to Manitowoc Lutheran (25-20, 25-19, 25-17). The Storm was upset by Brillion (25-22, 25-20, 24-26, 23-25, 15-4).
