|Vernon Donald Groe, 82, died Thursday, September 22, 2016 in Titusville, FL.Vernon, the youngest of five children, was born on a farm in Worth County, Iowa. He enlisted in the Army and was chosen to serve in a Communications capacity at Ft. Lewis, Washington. After his military service he married Joan Nielsen and together they raised a family, eventually settling in Chippewa Falls, WI. Vern was a general contractor who designed and built custom homes including the homes he built for his family. Vern was an active parent and volunteer in sports clubs and church committees, always willing to lend a helping hand. In retirement Vern enjoyed remodeling their home in Baileys Harbor, WI, and other smaller building projects. He was an avid fan of local musicians, actors and other artists and supported many arts organizations as a volunteer. His eye for beauty was evident in everything from the homes he built to the gardens h! e tended and the nature photos he snapped. During their retirement years, Vern and Joan enjoyed the snowbird life and wintered in Titusville, FL, where they enjoyed serving their community through their church and neighborhood association. He also enjoyed Floridaâs nature preserves, theater and musical arts with Joan by his side. Vernâs steady faith, servant attitude, honesty, integrity, kindness, generosity, and good Norwegian humor touched everyone who knew him.Vernon is survived by his wife Joan; son Dean (Ana) Groe of Orlando, FL; son Lorne (Michelle) Groe of Ann Arbor, MI; daughter Melissa (LeJay) Slocum of Atlanta, GA; his grandchildren Lisa, Andrew, Addison, Thacher, Phylicia and Gunnar; great-grandchildren Xaryana and Jaelynn; his brother Robert Groe and his wife Jen, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.A celebration of Vernon’s life, including recognition of his military service, will be held at 11am Saturday, October 1, 2016 at Indian River City United Metho! dist Church. Memorials may be given in Vernon’s name to Indian River City United Methodist Church or to the American Cancer Society.|

She was born January 17, 1937, in Kewaunee County to Gilbert and Irene (Blahnik) Finendale. Joan farmed in the Forestville area and owned and operated Delorit Sales and Service for many years. Virginia Schwantes Peltier, age 62 of Bullhead City, AZ died unexpectedly on Tuesday, October 18, 2016. She was born on April 3, 1954 in Kewaunee to Erwin and Carol Schwantes. Virginia graduated from Kewaunee High School in 1972 and went on to get her degree in Nursing. She worked at the Kewaunee Nursing Home as well as Shady Lane Nursing Home in Manitowoc.
